Privacy Policy

What this site collects, why, who else touches it, and how to ask us to change or remove it.

Last updated: October 12, 2026

The short version
  • There are no accounts, no payments and no newsletter.
  • The one place we collect personal information is the contact form.
  • Links to Amazon and eBay are affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you buy, at no extra cost to you.
  • We don’t sell personal information.

Who we are

BuyKayaks (“we”, “us”) is the website buykayaks.co, operated by Scout Theory LLC. It is an independent kayak buying guide. We don’t sell products, and the site has no user accounts or checkout.

What we collect and why

When you use the contact form. If you send us a message, we receive:

  • the details you type in: your name, email address, the topic you choose, your answers to the optional questions (where you paddle, which part of the site it concerns, a link), and your message;
  • technical details sent along with the form: the web address of the page it was sent from, the page that referred you (the referrer), your browser’s user-agent string, your language setting, and how long the page had been open before you sent it.

We use this to read and answer your message, to fix errors you point out, and to filter spam. The form also contains a hidden field that real visitors never see; bots tend to fill it in, and we use that to discard their messages.

When you just browse. You don’t have to give us anything to read the site. Like most web servers, the server that hosts the site may keep routine logs (such as IP address, time and the page requested) for security and troubleshooting.

What we don’t collect. We don’t ask for payment details, passwords or accounts, and we don’t run a newsletter.

Cookies and affiliate tracking

The pages of this site don’t set cookies of their own. Our product links, however, go to Amazon and eBay with our affiliate identifiers attached. When you follow one, Amazon or eBay may set cookies in your browser so that a purchase can be credited to us. That happens on their sites under their policies, not ours. Each of our eBay links also carries a short code for the page it was on, so we can tell which page a click came from.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser at any time. The site works without them, and so do the links.

Analytics

When you click a link to Amazon or eBay, a small script on the page notes the click (which merchant, the link address, the page and the link text) in a list held inside your browser, which a tag manager or analytics tool could read if one were installed. As of the date above, the site’s pages do not load a third-party analytics service. If we add one, we will update this page.

The site loads its typefaces (Sora, Inter and Space Mono) from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when a page loads.

Third parties

WhoWhat they do here
GoogleProcesses contact-form submissions for us (they are written to a Google Sheet that we operate) and serves our fonts through Google Fonts.
AmazonWe take part in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. Visiting Amazon after clicking a link is governed by Amazon’s own privacy notice.
eBayWe take part in the eBay Partner Network. Visiting eBay after clicking a link is governed by eBay’s own privacy notice.
Linked sitesOther sites we link to, including our sister sites FishFinders.co, BoatGear.co, RodAndReel.co and DiveComputers.co, are separate and have their own policies.

We don’t sell or rent your personal information, and we don’t share your contact-form details with anyone except the service providers described above.

How long we keep it

We keep contact messages for as long as we need them to answer you and to handle any follow-up, such as making a correction. We don’t keep them for marketing.

Your choices and rights

  • You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Use the contact form and choose “Privacy request” as the topic.
  • You can use the site without ever sending us anything.
  • You can block or clear cookies, and use your browser’s tracking-protection settings.
  • You can decline to use affiliate links and search for products yourself; the guides remain useful either way.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. We’ll honour reasonable requests, and you can raise them through the same form.

Children

This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you think a child has sent us a message, tell us through the contact form and we’ll delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed, and material changes will appear here.
