Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26. Before you buy a kayak in a sale, check five things: that the exact model and model year match what you need, the size of the boat against your car and storage, how and when it will be delivered, whether the "was" price is real, and what the return terms say about a boat that is wrong or damaged.
A sale does not change what a kayak is. A boat that is a poor fit at full price is still a poor fit at a discount, and kayaks are bulky enough that a mistake costs time and shipping. The goal is to decide what you want before the sale starts, so the sale only affects when and where you buy.
The 2026 dates
Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, which makes it November 26 in 2026. Black Friday is the day after, November 27. Cyber Monday is the first Monday after Thanksgiving, listed as November 30, 2026. The 2026 Thanksgiving and Black Friday dates are derived from that rule, and the Cyber Monday page lists its date directly (see the sources box below).
Sellers may run promotions for days or weeks around those dates, so the calendar is a guide to when sales are advertised rather than a deadline. Treat any "ends tonight" banner with some scepticism and compare before you commit.
Check the boat, not the banner
Start with the specs you decided on before the sale. If you have not decided, read how to buy a kayak first, then come back. On the listing, confirm:
- The exact model and model year. Discounted boats are sometimes the previous year's version. That can be fine, but cockpit layouts, seats and hardware change between years, so make sure the one you are buying is the one you read about.
- Length and type. Our kayak length guide explains how length affects speed, tracking and storage.
- Capacity and boat weight. Look for both numbers on the maker's spec sheet, not just the retailer's summary, and read how capacity is stated so you know what the number means.
- What is in the box. Some listings include a paddle, seat or accessories, and some do not. A bundle can look like a discount when the paddle is something you would never use.
If the listing does not name a maker or give dimensions, treat that as a reason to look elsewhere.
Compare a kayak model across sellers
Search the exact model name, then compare the model year, dimensions and what ships in the box before looking at the price.
Check the box: size and delivery
A hardshell kayak ships as a long, awkward package, and an inflatable arrives in a bag or box that can still be heavy. Before you buy, check how it ships, who delivers it and where it will be left. If you live in an apartment or have no one home during the day, a delivery to a pickup point or a local store can avoid a boat sitting on a doorstep.
The Federal Trade Commission's Mail, Internet or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule applies to online orders. In plain terms, if a seller advertises a shipping time it must have a reasonable basis for it, and if it states none it has 30 days to ship. If a delay happens, the seller has to tell you and offer the choice to cancel for a refund. Sale periods are when that matters most, so screenshot the delivery promise at checkout.
Also plan how the boat gets home from the carrier or store. Our guide on transporting a kayak without a roof rack is worth reading if you do not already own a way to carry it.
Cam-buckle tie-down straps
Compare strap length and buckle style, and follow your vehicle and rack makers' instructions for securing a boat. Check your plan for the trip home before the boat arrives.
Check the price claim
"Was" prices are where sales get slippery. The FTC's guide on former-price comparisons says a former price should be the actual price at which the seller regularly offered the item over a substantial period, in good faith, not a number set to make the markdown look bigger. You cannot prove a seller's pricing history from your couch, but you can look for patterns.
- The "list" price appears nowhere else for the same model.
- The same boat is listed at a similar price by other sellers days earlier.
- A "deal" is a bundle, and the bundle contents are worth less to you than the headline suggests.
- The listing changes model year, colour or dimensions between pages.
Compare the sale price against the same model at two or three other sellers, including used listings, rather than against the number in the strikethrough. Our used kayak buying guide explains how to judge a used boat if that is part of your comparison.
What is worth waiting on
If you do not need a kayak yet, a sale can be a good time to buy a boat you have already researched. If you are still deciding between types, do not let a countdown clock decide for you. A beginner can read best kayaks for beginners and make a calm choice in any week of the year.
Do not rush safety gear or anything that has to fit your body. A life jacket needs a proper fit and a try-on, and the U.S. Coast Guard says to check the label for weight and chest size. That means a PFD is a poor impulse purchase. Smaller accessories like carts and dry bags are easier to compare across sellers, because they come with fewer fit questions. If you are buying for someone else, gifts for kayakers keeps the picks size-safe.
Check the return terms
Read the seller's return policy before you pay, not after the boat arrives. For a large item, the questions that matter are who pays the return shipping, whether the boat has to be unused or in the original packaging, whether there is a restocking charge, and how long you have. Holiday sale terms can differ from standard terms, and the listing or checkout page is where the seller states them. If you cannot find the policy, ask the seller before ordering.
When the boat arrives, inspect it promptly for hull damage, dents and missing parts, and photograph any problem before you move it. The hull and hardware checks in our used kayak buying guide apply to a new boat too.

Black Friday kayak FAQ
When is Black Friday 2026?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26. Cyber Monday follows on Monday, November 30.
Is Black Friday a good time to buy a kayak?
It can be if you already know which boat you want and have checked the model year, dimensions and return terms. If you are still deciding, take your time. A sale does not make the wrong boat right.
What should I check before buying a kayak online in a sale?
Check the exact model and model year, the length and capacity on the maker's spec sheet, what ships in the box, the delivery promise and the return terms. Compare the sale price against other sellers.
Are the "was" prices on sale listings reliable?
Not always. The FTC says a former price should be the price the seller actually and regularly offered over a substantial period. Compare the same model across sellers instead of trusting the strikethrough.
